Color

Pantone Color Institute announces its color of the year 2019! Each year the institute selects a hue that it believes will define the new year ahead, and this year it’s “Living Coral”. The color is described as “ animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge”.

At Marilyn H. Rose Interiors, color theory plays a vital role in our interior design projects.  However, you do not have to be a professional designer to learn some of the color design basics that can assist you in creating your own beautiful space.

The color wheel is an important tool for the interior designer.  It provides a visual representation of which colors blend well together.  Most models include 12 colors.

This color wheel can be a great starting point for you when the task of decorating seems daunting.  Selecting one color to begin the process and then using a complimentary color is the simplest.  Complimentary colors sit opposite each other on the color wheel.  They are extremely high in contrast so it is a good idea to incorporate neutrals into this design.  These neutrals will give a place for the eye to rest with such a vibrant scheme.

For some of our clients when designing our Hamptons Interior Design and Long Island Interior Design projects, this color scheme is too drastic for their taste.  We will then employ a different color design technique.  Another option could be the split complimentary color scheme.  In this instance, you would first choose the dominant color and then choose the two colors on either side of the opposite color.  The effect using this scheme is not as bold as using the complimentary scheme, and therefore neutrals are not heavily relied on.

There are other color design techniques that we utilize at Marilyn H. Rose Interiors, however, we believe that these two examples are a good introduction for the beginner in the color design world.  So pick the color that inspires you and give it a try.  We are sure that you will not be disappointed with the result!
