We designed this gorgeous kitchen with our friends at Artista Kitchen and Bath. The client wanted a kitchen that showed off her incredible Great South Bay views!

“Recently, a previous client came to me to let me know she was building a new home on a fabulous spot on the open water located on the South Shore,” said Marilyn Rose of Marilyn H. Rose Interiors. “Ultimately it will become their retirement retreat, but for now, it’s a summer and weekend getaway home.”

One of the first priorities was to design the kitchen, so Marilyn went to Artista Kitchen Designs in Huntington and met with owner Michael Mangino. After several meetings, it was decided that a vintage white cabinet enhanced and given depth with a wire brush applied glaze would suit the space best. Raised panel doors mixed with complementary recessed panel drawers add visual interest.

“The Minoan pattern tile used in the backsplash reminded us of waves,” explained Marilyn. “We felt it reflected the water just outside the kitchen windows.” The island was done using a contrasting cherry wood in a brown stain with a black glaze. To unify the space, all counters and the island were topped with an unusual granite called Typhoon Bordeaux which gives incredible dimension and depth to the entire area. Country French counter stools in an antique white finish with sea glass color fabric on the seats recalls the water as well as reflects the color scheme of the adjoining family room.

“All in all, the clients were thrilled with the finished product,” remarked Marilyn, “and we ultimately went on to work on the rest of the house.”
