Our Top Window Treatment Tips

Window treatments are one of the most important parts of any room. They make your room look finished and professionally decorated. They also provide warmth and privacy to your home. Window treatments run the gamut from simple shades to more elaborate swags and jabots. I’m noticing that clients are asking for simpler window treatments, as opposed to the more elaborate window treatments of days past.

Today I’ll discuss two rooms we designed and how important the window treatments are in these spaces!

For this room in an Manhasset home we designed, the client’s main goal for her window treatments was that they provide privacy. The rest of the room has classic tailored details and neutral tones, so we didn’t want to do overly elaborate window treatments. We decided to begin with sheers, to diffuse the light and add privacy. We then selected a beautiful silk fabric and designed the window treatments so that they would frame the mantle. They have a pretty trim detail to add visual interest, as well.

This is a room in Muttontown that we designed. This style of window treatment has been especially popular – just simple panels on a rod with rings. This room is very classic with great antiques, but the window treatments are more transitional. The hefty rods balance out the high ceilings well.
